Point Labatt

Hi,

It’s awsome to be at Streaky Bay it has lots of different things to see like Murphys Haystacks and the Whistling rocks but my favourite thing to see is Point Labatt because it is the best place to see sea lions. The sea lions are funny, lazy, silly and are really cute and did you know that a male sea lion can weigh up to 400kg that is nearly as big as me, just kidding.

See you soon, James:D
PS There was a sea lion that looked a lot like my Grandad, just joking.

A Beautiful Day in Streaky Bay.

Well, what a great day we have had here in beautiful Streaky Bay. After waking up to a perfect sunrise we went of to Point Labatt to visit the colony of Austrlian, and some New Zealand, Sea Lions. They have setup a great viewing platfor about 50m above the colony and the rugged coastline that offers a great view and allowed me to take full advantage of my 70-300mm telephoto lens and the 2x Teleconverter (or in other words a long zoom lens) to take some great shots of the Sea Lions and the coastline.

We then went to to a place in Streaky Bay called Mocean (get it “motion”) for lunch before taking a drive to Cape Bauer, not far from the caravan park we were staying in. We stopped at a place on the way around this loop road to Cape Bauer called Whistling Rocks, where I took some video and will try and put it onto the site for you to view.

I have added a few more photos to the previous posts so take a look.

Going to dinner at the local pub tonight before heading to Eluca tomorrow.

Bye for now,
Tom.

Streaky Bay.

Good morning everyone,

I am writing this post as I sit outside the van, looking out across Streaky Bay with sun rising and taking the chill from the air. Enough poetry, it is a beautiful clear morning here and we are lucky enough to have a caravan site right on the beach with great views across the bay. We had an easy drive from Port Pirie yesterday, crossing the Eyre Peninsula via Port Augusta, then stopping at Kimba, the half way point across Australia for those of us driving from Sydney to Perth, and Winnipa south of the Gawler Ranges before arriving in Streaky Bay around 3pm (CT).

Today we are going to see the only permanent colony of Australia Sea Lions, about 50km south of here, before we take scenic drive around Cape Bauer.

The boys will create some more posts today and I will post some more photos tonight.

Cheers, Tom.

Half way across Australia

Hey guys,

It’s me James, we are now half way across Australia. Have you ever seen a 8 meter high Galah because we just did. The little town of Kimba owns this massive model bird and guess what, this bird marks half way across Australia how cool is that.

See you soon James:)

Arrived safely at Port Pirie.

Hi Everyone,

We arrived safely at Port Pirie, without bringing in any fruit, and the trip so far has been great. The roads are fantastic and weather has only been a little overcast with a few rain showers in between bursts of sunshine.

I have added some relevant pictures to the earlier posts, so check them out below. If you click on them you will be able to open them up for a closer view.

Bye for now and we will send some more updates on the way to Streaky Bay tomorrow.

Cheers,
Tom.

Crossing the Murray and strange trees

Hi,

We are now in South Australia and we just crossed the Murray River by car ferry and it is so big that some trees we could only see the top of, that’s pretty deep.
We also saw trees, very strange trees, one tree had boots and shoes hanging off it and the other had underwear hanging in it. Have a look at the photos.

Bye for now, James:0
(Ps I will be putting the emotions I was felling after my name)

Gday mates I’m now in the vast lands of Victoria and we have been past the murray and murrumbidgee river. This was a close one today I was so close from stepping on a scorpion with my own bare foot but I’m ok.

End of the first day.

Hi Everyone,

We have just arrived at first stop, 75km short of our scheduled stop, just east of Balranald in south western NSW. We decided to stop early due to fading light and some rain. It’s a nice little spot which is near a dam and is of the highway away from truck noise. There is also a motorhome parked near by.

It has been an interesting 862km today, stopping at Goulburn for morning tea, then Wagga Wagga for some lunch and fuel then some more fuel in Hay before our first stop. We saw a number of controlled grass burn offs on the way before seeing a number of emus along the way here from Hay.

Off to Port Pirie early tomorrow morning, so bye for now.

Cheers,
Tom.
